Sigiya or Lion Rock fortress is an astonishing rock set in the cultural heart of Sri Lanka, rising a 200 metres above a forested land situated near the city of Dambulla. King Kasyapa chose Sigiriya as his new Capital and built his palace on top of the rock to protect himself from the invaders. King Kasyapa was clearly a man who admired beauty and He created some magnificent pools, fountains and channels, beautiful gardens which are in good condition today after 1500 years. Sigiriya rock is decorated with colourful Frescoes, a mesmerizing, unique picture gallery of beautiful maidens dates back to 5th century. There was huge stone guardian lion situated in the entrance but only his paws can be seen today. The view from the top of the Sigiriya rock is just spectacular.. In 1982 Sigiriya was announced as a world heritage site by UNESCO and known as one of the oldest tourist attractions for many years for people from all over the world.\r\n\r\nWhile you are in Sigiriya You can visit Pidurangala Temple a complex of a rock caves and walk through the villages in Sigiriya to experience the simple lifestyle of the villagers. There is a Herbal garden with rare medicine plants and trees which tourists can visit.
