This is the largest protected bird sanctuary in Sri Lanka and is home to nearly 255 species of birds. Kumana National Park is known as Yala East and was established in 1969, situated on the south coast of Sri Lanka just 12 km from Arugam Bay. It has 18100 hectares with lots of cultures and heritage dating back to the 1st and 2nd centuries B.C. Popular birds that can be found are little Cormorants, Heron, Pelican, Spoonbills, Stalks and the uniquely Sri Lankan White Ibis as well as colourful flora and fauna. A Jeep safari will take approximately 3 hours.
